"It is challenging existing in different realms. On a daily basis, I experience profound contradictions: as an artist, a wife, an uprooted Asian daughter. In turn, posing further challenges : how to reconcile a Buddhist upbringing with existentialism, how to cope with multiple persona and access the inner self ? Conceived pictorially, how the vivid colours that penetrate my consciousness are sometimes transformed into images composed in intricate grids of black and white?"
Sources of Inspiration
Picasso’s energy.
Thunder and lighting. Lush tropical colours and light. Wilderness of the Rockies. Parched haunting landscape of late summer in Tuscany and Puglia. Romantic landscape of Provence. Intricate, unpredictable and translucent sea of Norwegian fjords.
Intimacy and sublimity of Mozart. Unrequited love and haunted longing of Schubert. Agony and ecstasy of Beethoven. Vibrant sound colours of Prokofiev. Picturesque scherzi of Dvorak. Celestial harmonies of Bach. Grand eroticism and life dramas of Wagner.
The sublimity in untamed nature of Romanticism works by Tieck, Hoffmann & Kleist
Provocative poetical works of Blake, Byron, Shelley & Wordsworth.
The Style
I have been much influenced by Post-Impressionism, Expressionism and Cubism. These influences have been combined with an exotic feel for colour and form.
I have produced powerful images of luscious tropical landscapes charged with the electric atmosphere of the monsoon. While the intensity of colours that predominate in these works reflect states of mind, the subjects are largely based upon literary references.
My inter-woven grid black & white drawings explore the illusionistic rhythm of formlessness.
Increasingly, in a quite different context, my fascination in ordered form and function is reflected in my architectural drawings of historical buildings in Italy.
